Injuries and illnesses can happen off the
job that will require you to be off work for various amounts of
time:
-
sick
-
stress
-
personal injury
-
trauma
-
other
When you are
required to be off sick, there are different
requirements depending on the reason for your absence.
1. See Your doctor ASAP
If you become ill for any reason or are
hurt and it may restrict your ability to work, it is important
to see your family doctor as soon as possible. The date
you first visit the doctor will be used by Manu-life in
determining when your weekly indemnity benefits will start.
2. More then 3 days off work
If you are injured or hospitalized, your
Manu-life benefits are paid from the first day you are off work.
For an illness, indemnity benefits are payable
beginning on the fourth day after your first doctors visit.
So if you do not go see your doctor until day 4 of your illness,
your benefits will not be paid until day 7. Keep this in
mind.
You can get the benefit forms from either
your supervisor or from the Manu-life website by logging in at
the following link:
Manu-life log-in page
In the case of Manu-life, you
must fax in the forms on your own once completed or return them
to CP to be sent in. Manu-life is pretty quick at processing
information, so your benefits should begin to flow shortly
there-after.
3. More then 21 days off
work
If your illness or injury
results in less then
21 days off work, you may return to work by advising your supervisor and
furnishing a doctors note for your absence. After 21 days
you will now fall under
CP's Return to Work
policy and
getting back will involve Calgary. Please see the
returning to work information for this procedure.
