Once you have been off work for more then
21 days, regardless of the reason, CP's Chief Medical Officer
now gets involved in the process. Here are the 4 steps to
this process as per CP Policy:
-
1. Report any injury
or illness immediately to your supervisor or designated
group (CMC, Timekeeping etc.) as per the guidelines for your
department.
-
2. Get a Return to
Work Information Package from your supervisor, your local
Return to Work Committee member, or from CPR's OHS.
-
3. Have your doctor
complete a return to work form or CPR medical report form
and send it as soon as possible as directed. (The return to
work form to your supervisor and the CPR medical report form
to OHS)
-
4. Stay in regular
contact with your supervisor and your local return to
work committee.
Basically, when your doctor indicates
you are ready to return to work, in any capacity at all, complete
the form and send it in to OHS in Calgary and contact your local
return to work committee.

You may need to be eased back into
work, which is often the case, so ensure your doctor clarifies your
workload limits in this report. Workload limits are the
extent to which you may be restricted (ie. cannot sit for long
periods of time, cannot lift over 15 pounds etc.)
Once OHS has authorized your return to
work, your local return to work committee will work with you to accommodate you wherever they
are able to in the workplace.
